DAY 4: Some Like it Hot

I am starting today with the end of the day.  We visited a geothermal hot spot in Myvatn and bathed in a mineral rich series of pools that varied in temperature from hot to really hot but bearable. This capped a day of hiking in the Myvatn lake region - our destination.

We walked 12 miles in two segments. One was up the locally known "Mount Windbag" (Mount Vindbelgjarfjall) and the other around the rim of a cinder crater (Mount Hverfjall). Nice walking, nice views and great exercise.
We also had lunch at a farm (Cowshed Café in Vogafjos) and walked around an area (Hofoi) known as a haven for loons (the bird type).

About halfway between Akureyri and Myvatn we stopped at the Waterfall of the Gods (Godafoss).  Legend has it that Christianity became Iceland's official religion here in 1000 marked by pushing pagan statues into the falls.

To finish where we began but at the very end of the day, we created a new vodka cocktail as a nightcap. The "Crater" is a mix of ginger, orange, lime, raspberry leaf and burdock.
